Four U S senators Borah Heflin LaFollette Norris denied receiving a 1 215 million Mexican slush fund or being approached. Dudley Field Malone testified and denied any connection. Democratic Leader Robinson urged prosecution, while Reed said no evidence showed any senator benefited.

Washington December 16 Republicans retained full control of the Senate by reelected Senator Moses of New Hampshire as president. Votes were 42 to 39 for Moses 42 to 41 for Thayer and 42 to 40 for Barry. Shipstead and western independents voted with Republicans.
