UMW delegates empower miners to strike selective companies
One thousand two hundred delegates at the United Mine Workers convention approved giving the International Executive Board authority to order selective strikes and to fund them with a special assessment on working miners. The plan allows strikes against companies like Consolidation Coal Co if they depart the Bituminous Coal Operators Association. The proposal also lets the IEB order miners to work past contract expirations in selective cases, with up to 250 dollars a month in benefits.
