Virginia seeks site for low level radioactive waste
Virginia moves to identify a state site to dispose of low level radioactive wastes from University of Virginia and Medical College of Virginia hospitals. The search could take a year or more, with several additional years for a federal license. Currently three licensed sites exist nationwide, including Barnwell, Beattie, and Hanford, with Hanford recently reopening after storage concerns.
