Four Local Fellows Buy a Train in Kennett Square
Four local men led by Cal Nichols and Richard Robey purchased the Octoraro Railway in 1976, investing 50,000 dollars to revive 47 miles of former Penn Central track and 29 miles leased from Reading. They aim to ship 1,600 carloads in 1978 and 2,500 by 1981, aided by regional rail subsidies under the Three R and Four R acts.
