Mack Makes Big Sale of Famous Athletic Aces
Connie Mack at the Chicago meeting announced the sale of stars from the Philadelphia Athletics. Lefty Grove Rube Walberg Max Bishop and Mickey Cochrane were sent to the Red Sox Tigers and White Sox with Harold Warstler Bob Kline and Charlie Berry among the new acquisitions. The moves signal the break up of the 1929 and 1930 world champion club with Jimmie Foxx remaining. Detroit reportedly paid $100000 for Cochrane while Boston paid about $125000 for Grove Warstler and Kline and $50000 for Walberg and Bishop. The White Sox paid $25000 and Beery for Earnshaw.
