William Kirtz of Craigsville was jailed in Staunton after allegedly assaulting Augusta County probation officer Mrs. C. W. Robertson in her home. Robertson, bedridden and injured, said Kirtz attacked with murderous blows after defying court orders. Her husband was seized by the throat as he attempted to intervene. Kirtz fled but was captured by Deputy Earl Taylor.

Edward P Spillman longtime Winchester resident died yesterday at Staunton Virginia Western State Hospital after a yearlong illness. Funeral arrangements set for 2 30 Sunday at the home of Thomas Spillman 437 North Market Street with Rev J F Morgan of First Christian Church to officiate and Mount Hebron Cemetery to receive the body. Spillman a native of Frederick County was about 50 and previously worked as a carpenter and mechanic then janitor at the city post office building. He belonged to the Friendship Fire Company Winchester lodge Elks Shaegee Tribe Red Men Hickory Camp and the Citizens Band. He was survived by his brother Thomas B Spillman.
