Zarb Forecasts 2.5 Cent Fuel Price Cut From Plan
Federal Energy Administrator Frank Zarb told Sen. Jackson that the compromise energy bill should save consumers about 2.5 cents a gallon on petroleum products though the timing may delay any immediate price drop. The 16 day conference produced a bill to keep oil price controls through March 1979 and roll back the current oil price from 10.50 to 7.66 per barrel with a 40 month path toward normalization.

Virginia corrections report empty beds at work release centers
The Virginia Department of Corrections finds vacant beds at work release centers due to stricter qualifying rules. At least 60 beds are unused across state centers and 15 to 20 more at a Harrisonburg unit. The Harrisonburg program targets 18 to 21 year olds for basic education, though funding limits and non violent felon participation are under consideration. A committee seeks ways to fill beds while preserving safety. A separate note mentions a revival at Little Mountain United Methodist Church in Cedar Grove with nightly services and a guest speaker.
