Polio Workers Set Thursday Meeting for Campaign

Polio chapter representatives from Winchester and seven surrounding counties will meet Thursday at 7 p.m. at the George Washington Hotel. Five Coal Miners Killed in West Virginia Mine Collapse

BECKLEY West Virginia Five coal miners were killed when tons of rock collapsed two miles inside Southern West Virginia's Raleigh Wyomin g Co No 2 mine at Glen Rogers. The last body was recovered this morning after rescue work. Eight other men escaped injury while removing timber from an abandoned area. John Carr Named Chairman of Salvation Army Board

John J. Carr of W. Cecil Street was elected chairman of the Salvation Army Board at a luncheon meeting at the post headquarters. Other officers named were J. Thomas Boyd vice chairman Ed Molden treasurer and Mrs T F Timberlake secretary. Forty? four members attended. The meeting announced Winchester civic clubs will man Christmas kettles on December 21 with club presidents named. December 14 the Women’s Auxiliary hosts a doll festival and silver tea. Christmas plays for children are set for December 22 and a party on December 23 with baskets distributed December 24.

Five Die in Alaska Plane Crash Near Hollis

Five persons perished when a light plane crashed into Twelve Mile Sound near Hollis Alaska. Victims include Mr and Mrs Charles Williams and two of their children from Hollis plus the pilot Don Morgan. The crash occurred about 45 miles west of Ketchikan.
