Crash on Route 7 claims second Frederick County death

An October 1 highway crash east of Winchester adds a second fatality, lifting Frederick County 1956 road deaths to 14. Joseph F. Heath 49 of Springfield Virginia died in Arlington Memorial Hospital from injuries. Norman H. Greenblatt 40 of Wilmington Delaware died at Memorial Hospital. Kernstown Home Damaged by Fire

A fire around noon damaged a Kernstown frame cottage owned by Mr and Mrs Delmer Donald. Neighbor Miss Lily Anderson alerted the alarm as the blaze confined to the living room where a furnace burned, destroying two chairs a studio couch and a TV set. Firefighters from Stephens City and Shawnee fought the flames, with no immediate word on insurance or estimated losses.

Six Student Nurses Die in Route 22 Crash

Six student nurses aged nineteen and twenty from St Marys Hospital Brooklyn were killed when their car skidded on Route 22 near Patterson New York and crashed into a milk tank truck. The sixth nurse died en route to hospital. The victims were bound for Harlem Valley State Mental Hospital at Wingdale to begin a psychiatric nursing training course.

Plane vanishes in British Columbia windstorm with 62 aboard

A Trans-Canada Air Lines four engine plane carrying 59 passengers and 8 crew vanished in a violent windstorm over south central British Columbia. Royal Canadian Air Force planned a dawn search with four planes and a ground party from Chilliwack. The flight left Vancouver at 6 p m PST bound for eastern Canada with stops at Calgary Regina Winnipeg and Toronto.
