Loss At Home Over Truman Pick Gardner As Ambassador
The article notes criticism of President Truman's choice of O Max Gardner as ambassador to London while asserting Gardner, former North Carolina governor and Treasury undersecretary, is a capable choice. It states Gardner will be missed in Washington where he is Treasury's leading fiscal expert and a key liaison with Republicans on budget and tax matters. It concludes the nation must accept the appointment since one man cannot serve both roles.
