A man named Joseph Fries of Stanley Page county Virginia arrested in Staunton and held for Winchester authorities on theft of a Ford touring car belonging to John J Williams. Fries claimed a Harrisonburg man hired him to drive to Staunton. The car was taken from in front of the Empire Theater and Fries is held for the January grand jury of the Corporation Court. Deputy Lee Barr transported Fries to Staunton.
Three reputed gangsters led by a woman burst into Leroy Lynch's Philadelphia home early today. They woke him from sleep, ordered him to dress, then shot and beat him in the parlor as his wife and children watched. Lynch, 31, is described as in critical condition with a bullet wound and a severe head injury.
The five western independents and the Senate Republican old guard reached amicable terms on Senate organization. After assurances from Republican leader Senator Curtis of Kansas that a majority favored early votes on the legislative program the independents agreed to assist in organizing the Senate while reserving the right to pursue an independent course on future questions.
