Shipyard and Education Board Plan Energy Conservation
Virginia's largest power user and the State Board of Education announce energy saving steps during a fuel shortage. Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Co will generate some electricity and curb heat in some shops, possibly adjusting hours or staffing if crisis worsens. The Board urges reduced extracurriculars and bus use, with some events and trips possibly canceled to save power. The SCC notes rising fuel costs already add about $1 monthly to Vepco's typical residential bill, with higher costs likely ahead due to the Arab oil embargo.
