Regional site study eyed for regional sewage plant move
The Winchester Frederick Service Authority backed an engineering study to assess moving the regional sewage treatment plant from the Robert W. Koon farm site near Route 7 to an alternate site north of Route 7. Cost shares include about 16 200 by Frederick County or at least 4 500 local funds if grants cover the rest. The county supervisors will decide tonight on spending about 14 000 for engineering plus 2 200 for borings with a decision tied to potential site viability and cost. The study also weighs implications for power costs and ground conditions at the alternate site as planners consider downzoning. The State Water Control Board change allows a late Step II grant submission up to February 1.
