Pope to Visit Holy Land in January Historic Trip Set in 1964
Pope Paul VI will leave Rome January 4 for a three day visit to Palestine the first papal trip to the region since early church times. He may fly the 3000 mile round trip becoming the first pope to travel by air and visit sites in Jordan and Israel including Jerusalem and Nazareth. The visit linked to Christian unity and Epiphany celebrations highlights hopes for Orthodox relations and East Western churches.
