In north and south Lebanon fighting resumed despite a two week old Arab League ceasefire. Leftists and rightists accuse each other of starting shelling near the Israeli border while Israeli batteries and patrols support rightist forces around Bint Jbeil and Khiam.
UPS reports a tentative settlement with the Teamsters reached in Washington D C and says operations could resume soon if ratified. About 17 000 UPS workers from Maine to South Carolina vote next. wages not major but a 33 percent rise over three years is outlined, while a shift to part time inside staff sparked the strike that began September 15.
