Make Progress On New Street Paving Jefferson Street

Considerable progress is being made on the paving of Jefferson street with the base stone laid as far as the Handley school. The project advances steadily amid ongoing work details.

New Traffic Circuit Aims to Ease Handley School Access

A plan proposes a by pass route to greatly relieve traffic congestion at Handley school by enabling cars to leave and enter on both sides, completing a circuit. The move would open up many desirable sites for development along Jefferson Street under the new policy.

Carrier Pigeon Found at County Home With Identifying Band

A carrier pigeon was found at the home of Aven near Siler by Mr. DeHaven who shot some pigeons for food before discovering the bird. The pigeon bears the band serial number IF33-40-33. DeHaven offers to return it to its owner if located.

County Teachers Draw October Pay

Frederick County teachers received the second half of October pay this week. Most called at the office to collect checks. The payments arrived as a Thanksgiving present and circulated quickly through local households.

Virginia Farmers See Smaller, More Numerous Holdings

A 1935 federal farm census preliminary report shows Virginia farms grew more numerous by sixteen percent over five years while average farm size rose to 89.3 acres from 98.1 in 1930. Total land value fell about 31 percent to 593,854,751 dollars and value per acre dropped 34 percent to 33.66 dollars. Cattle rose while horses declined. owner-operated farms increased, manager-operated farms decreased, and tenant and croppers rose slightly.
