The Winchester Kiwanis club met Tuesday November 28 at 7 30 in Hotel Evans dining room filled to capacity. A large table of guests received slips and couples were paired for the evening. Mrs Coble provided a splendid turkey supper with mince pie ice cream and coffee. Gray Williams gave a vivid talk on European hardship and postwar recovery and the broader spirit of helping others. The gathering closed with prayer by Rev A A Kelly and a Kiwanis closing song.

Barrie’s Auto Abandoned After Theft Recovery
George Barrie and Sheriff Pannett returned from Baltimore with Barrie’s new automobile stolen from East Piccadilly street Wednesday afternoon. Police in Baltimore found the car abandoned in York Road suburbs with Virginia plates still on. The switch key was missing but Barrie wired the car for operation and brought it home. the insurer’s reward was expected for the informing officer.

A Harrisonburg jury raised the Brill land valuation from $6 to $27 per acre for 104 acres under the forestry act.
