Baptist Expansion Includes Youth Center Building
The church plans to convert the parsonage at Piccadilly Street and Fairmont Avenue into educational and recreational space and possibly buy another dwelling for youth activities. A ten member committee will study proposals after unanimous board approval led by Dr. A. T. Hawthorne. Glenowen estate history and 1820s partition details
In 1822 William Nelson Burwell died intestate leaving a widow and four children. The Glenowen farm of about 72 512 acres, adjoining Carter Hall and The Vineyard, was partly expanded in 1828. In 1840 commissioners divided the property among the heirs, with the widow’s dower land set off and the rest split into four lots: Jolliffe widow, Nathaniel Burwell, Elizabeth McGuire, and Anne Cooke. A later note mentions a December 2 window sale at Solenberger's Hardware to benefit the Maurertown Dorcas Society with homemade goods and handwork for Christmas gifts.
