The War Department prepared to release 15,000 doctors and 5,000 dentists from service under a reduced discharge score. Medical officers’ score drops from 80 to 70 points, three below the new critical total for other officers effective today. Medical personnel with 42 months of service or who are 48 years old become eligible for discharge now.
Russians began a surprise evacuation of Tehran including railway stations communications centers and private billets with the military headquarters. The Azerbaijan governor arrived in Tabriz from Tehran by plane lent by Soviet authorities while Iran denounced Soviet notes opposing Iranian troop passage and warned of wider conflict if intervention occurred.

A Hawaii attorney general report says four days before the November 12 riot at the Honolulu Naval Air Station an officer proposed letting sailors “lean up that gang” and avenge themselves on hoodlums. The report, to Gov. Stainback and presented to the House Territories Committee, cites a suggestion by an air station PR officer to the police chief.
The International Military Tribunal ruled Rudolf Hess must continue on trial with 19 other Nazi leaders. Judge Sir Geoffrey Lawrence announced no further mental tests were needed and Hess is capable of facing charges. Hess admitted faking amnesia for tactical reasons and appeared relieved as he engaged with prisoners before the session.
Leaders of the national labor management conference closed deliberations with hopeful signs for the future despite shortfalls. John L. Lewis urged unity in The House of Labor as he hinted at a return to AFL leadership amid factional strains. AFL and CIO backed wage and bargaining measures, but the management side rejected them and stood by its own plan.

The 18 year old and the girls Betty Ann Mackey and Kathleen Conrocde returned from Columbus Georgia aboard a Miami bound train. McLeod’s winter vacation will be spent in northern Michigan and his father Former Congressman Clarence J McLeod was too ill to meet the train.
Seventy six Ruhr industrial magnates were arrested at their homes in a large British security operation. Raids began at 11 P.M. and left only eight of the 84 targeted figures at large. Detainees included Thyssen steel directors and Hoesch Dortmund officials, with arrests made quietly in various domestic settings.
German General Anton Kashes was executed by firing squad in Aversa Italy after a court martial found him guilty for ordering executions in 1944. Dostler had been convicted earlier for war crimes and executed under U S command.
