Statewide Prohibition Reduces Crime and Disorder
Four weeks into prohibition, arrests dropped over 50 percent on all charges and drunk arrests by at least 90 percent. In Lynchburg and Richmond police report fewer dockets, no major fights or stabbings, and fewer ambulance calls. Prohibition officials say officers enforce the law and public drinkers face grand juries while liquor importations fall well short of expectations.
