Over seven auto wrecks were reported near Winchester with 13 injured. Dr Walter D Myers Winchester suffered severe facial and limb injuries with 100 stitches, after his Pontiac plunged from a stream embankment near Barton. Other injured include George C Gillingham Alexandria and Mrs Gillingham, Mildred Shryock Stephens City, Joseph G Gibson Upperville, and Mrs Gibson, with various cuts and shocks. The crash occurred about 11:20 Saturday night as Myers returned to Winchester. the car was badly damaged and found in the creek. Continued on Page Nine.

Farmers To Get $9000 Under Wheat Adjustment Program
Compliance forms covering the 1936 wheat adjustment program for Frederick county were completed Saturday and sent to the state grain office in Blacksburg for checking and approval for payment. About $9000 will be distributed to cooperating farmers in the county. County Agent I. Fred Stine said this completes all programs under the Agricultural Adjustment Act of 1933, part of which was invalidated by the Supreme Court last January. Applications from over 200 farmers last summer and fall allowed an increase in acreage to be planted. Congress then authorized payments at 2 1/2 cents per bushel on the estimated allotment where acreage did not exceed the base. About a dozen applications will not show compliance due to excess acreage.

Foster son of Interior secretary found dead
Wilmarth Ickes 37 foster son of Harold L. Ickes was found shot to death at his Winnetka home. A .38 pistol lay on the body, the entrance wound was temple to top of head. The caretaker Erick Magnuson said Ickes had been in ill health and headaches. The wife, Elizabeth Dahlman, learned of the tragedy by telephone from Chicago after arriving from Mackinac Island. The victim, treasurer and principal owner of General Printing Co., adopted the name Ickes after his mother’s 1911 marriage to the elder Ickes.

They hid behind a door as Deputy Sheriff Sealock entered and fled in an automobile with possible outside help. Miss Arthur Dies In Crash Near Summerville S C
Miss Frances Arthur sixteen daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles D Arthur of Columbia South Carolina was killed instantly when the automobile they rode in lost control near Summerville South Carolina overturning several times. Her mother was seriously injured and hospitalized. John Campbell of Columbia drove the other car. The Arthur cook escaped serious injury. The party were returning from Sullivan's Island to Columbia. Relatives learned of the tragedy Saturday and funeral arrangements were not known.

May Close Quail Season In Frederick
RICHMOND Virginia August 31 Chairman Carl Nolting said the Virginia Fish and Game Commission would at its next meeting consider a closed quail season in Frederick and possibly other counties this year. A petition asking for no hunting in Frederick has been received and would be advertised and heard. Senator Harry F Byrd wrote that quail were almost extinct in Clarke and Frederick counties though Clarke petition had not been received. Officials are investigating quail numbers in Augusta County due to reported scarcity.
