Oscar Petty, 32, while returning to America from Paris with his sister Mrs. Boles of Lexington Kentucky, leapt from the deck of the French liner Paris and died. Officials confirmed the suicide happened off the Atlantic Ocean side during the voyage.

Last Rites Held In Clarke County For Wm. Holliday
Funeral services were held in Berryville for William Holliday 65 of Clarke county who died Monday night at his home on the Winchester pike from complications after years of ill health. The Rev. George West led the service at the house with burial in Green Hill Cemetery. Survivors include his widow Lucy Allen two daughters Mrs. Walter Foley and Mrs. Raleigh Carter and a son William Holliday Jr all of Clarke county. He was raised by his uncle Capt Joseph Nathaniel Carpenter and his father was a Confederate soldier.

The chapel was erected by friends of Col Chew to perpetuate his memory in the community where he lived and labored.
