The Board of Health is taking every precaution though no danger is feared of spread. A visitor who disposed of stock and visited households remained quarantined, but rumors of widespread illness circulated. Officials note deaths and causes are reported. continued details follow on page two.
City and county health boards announce a genuine case of infantile paralysis in the Goode child and compel all residents sixteen or younger to remain off streets and away from public gatherings, staying indoors at home.
A fatal infantile paralysis case near Grimes six miles north of Winchester is confirmed. Nine year old James Thornton Goode, son of Jonah N. Goode, died at 4 PM after rapid onset. Health boards trace exposure to visitors from Westernport Maryland and Williamsport Maryland. Authorities ordered visitors from those towns to leave the state to prevent spread. Mrs. Goode, the child's mother, frequently sold dairy products in Winchester, raising public concern.
Two men Willie Green and John Henry Thomas, registered June 5, are sought for desertion from the army after failing to appear for draft examination. Authorities warn they will be arrested if found and may face the death penalty for evading the draft. Their present whereabouts are reportedly known but difficult to locate.
