Timberman Crushed by Log at Virginia Mill Tragedy
In Berryville Virginia, Frank Schaffenaker a 67 year old timberman was killed instantly when a large oak log rolled over him at a mill near Reservoir Road eight miles southeast of Berryville. Witness Elmer Oates said the log jammed on a root causing Schaffenaker to fall into the path of the rolling log. He died before help arrived. He left two sons, three married daughters and two brothers. The Clarke Frederick and Winchester areas received 27030.65 dollars in liquor profits distributed by the Virginia ABC Board with Frederick County at 11419.17 Winchester 10206.75 Clarke 5404.73 plus additional distributions to Berryville Boyce Stephens City and Middletown. County shares rose 1449.69 over last year. Stephens City received about 600 dollars. It was not known if the remaining checks have arrived.
