Railways blamed for not expanding Virginia apple business
W S Campfield of Staunton writes to The Packer blaming the Railway Express Company for not lowering rates to compete with trucks. He argues railroads and express firms overstaffed and overregulated fail to deliver value, while truck delivery boosts apple distribution. He notes trucks have expanded distribution and urges rate cuts to meet truck competition.
