The Food Administration announces it will cut out the fifty-fifty rule affecting dealers. Officials say the change ends a long standing practice and aims to streamline distribution for markets and suppliers.
Federal officials announce September 1 as the start date for Victory Mixed flour replacing the old fifty-fifty rule. The mix will be 80 percent wheat with 20 percent substitutes such as barley or corn, with specific ratios for bakers and retailers. Whole wheat and graham flours may be sold as victory flour if 95 percent of wheat is used.
The coming Winchester fair promises top horses in all race classes, fine livestock displays, and clean free attractions. Day and night features will draw crowds. secure season tickets through secretary D. Lup at the office.
Alexander Forward of the State Corporation Commission, aide to the adjutant general, reports a flood of requests for application blanks to enter the artillery training school. Blanks are mailed promptly. postage is the only cost. Many Danville gentlemen have asked for blanks. Thousands are expected to receive free training with commissions and deployment to the front when needed.
Shenandoah Valley Academy, a military school for boys, announces an information session led by Acting Principal Dr. J. B. Edwards on September 19 at 2 p m. The event signals preparations for university admission including West Point.

They will depart September 3 for Camp Humphries Virginia to join the Engineers Corps, after examinations determine their fit and duties. They report Monday at 3 pm to the exemption board and then travel to Washington. The Winchester Chamber of Commerce plans a Labor Day celebration to remove tolls on the Valley turnpike. A parade of cars will start September 2 at 12 30 from Braddock and Water streets with banners and a band. merchants listed will join the procession and offer special sales.
A wire report from Washington says two Americans were killed and 15 wounded in a clash with Mexican forces at Nogales last night. Fighting had ceased by 10 o clock and Mexican troops were moving toward the border. A conference between a Mexican general and American authorities was planned for later.
Mrs. L. P. Goodson of Danville boasts the record of six sons entering war service. Five accepted by the nation, one rejected for physical reasons, illustrating hometown commitment and wartime mobilization.

D C Sirbaugh, prominent Frederick County figure, died this morning in Winchester Memorial Hospital. He had lived in the city for several years. The funeral will be held at his late home on East Piccadilly at 10 o'clock Friday morning.
