Trouble erupts as non union workers try to enter the mop department of Atlantic Co. Hopewell group urges Peery. Silk woolen and rayon factory workers likely to join a large walkout next week, welcomed by reports the government may feed strikers.
George A. Sloan chairman of the Cotton Textile Code authority informs Dr. R. W. Bruere that amid a threatened cotton textile strike the code remains firm on code number one. He says the code was negotiated with government agencies and approved by the President and cannot be amended under threats of industrial warfare. The letter stresses adherence to the NRA principle as vital to recovery.
In Macon Georgia violence between non union workers and strikers shuts the mop department of Atlantic Cotton Mills after a clash that injured Caesar Cosly a black worker with a back wound requiring 12 stitches. About 200 union workers had been on strike and after the clash the entire mop plant closed as others joined the strikers.
Yard party hosted by B Church in Mt Pleasant announced for Thursday at 7:30 pm with a rain date the next night August 27 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
A local benefit event titled Mp PARTY is planned at a church on Friday August 31 from 3 to 1p to collect luggage for school and col lege items for Cather and related names.
A W Russell 61 died suddenly Sunday morning at the home of L C Miller in Winchester. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 PM from 690 North Cameron street and later at Woodstock Massanutten Cemetery. He leaves wife Mary Ellen Ray and daughter Goldie Fogle with pallbearers named. services by Rev W L Dudley and Rev S J Goode.

State's witness Edna Hanover testified in the Eva Coo murder trial that Coo urged her to keep silent about a life policy on Harry Wright after his body was found. Hanover recalled Coo talking fast, discussing a $460 policy and a $1,000 policy, and warned not to reveal details.
Mrs Virginia Pence about 62 of Shenandoah County near Edinburg died at Memorial Hospital from tetanus after a fracture of the arm. She had been treated locally and at home before tetanus developed. Survived by two sons Fred and Otis Pence of Washington DC. Aunt of L H Pence of this city. Funeral details unavailable.
In Fort Payne Alabama eight year old Wallace Doyle Sharp remains at home as parents of the Holiness Church refuse to let doctors take him to Gadsden for leg surgery. Deputies and doctors were told the child would be taken only by force, after a Friday removal by church members. Local efforts to provide medical aid continue amid calls for a faith cure.
Silver plates were donated to the Kernstown Methodist Church in memory of Elizabeth Steele Copp, former leader and president of the ladies activities. Dr. Copp and his daughter presented the plates to Pastor C. C. Bush, with engraving noting her contributions and faith. Dr. Copp preached on Optimism as a life asset. Robert S. Smith praised Mrs. Copp’s Christian motherhood and citizenship.
Miller and Anderson announce a radio sale featuring Philco products with detailed advertisements on page 9. The notice hints at limited stock and promotional discounts for shoppers.

The twelfth anniversary of the United Brethren Church on North Braddock Street marked a debt clearance for the church building. Pastor Rev. George W. Stover led the services and debt offering with the official board. cash and subscriptions total $2,033.50, plus $1,373 to be paid within a year, while $2,500 remains on the adjoining lot.
Mrs. Benjamin Warner aged 76, mother of the four Warner brothers who built the Hollywood studio, died of a cerebral hemorrhage in California. Her husband and two sons Jack and David were present. H M and Albert Warner were en route from New York and arrived after her death.

Missing for over 20 hours pilot Earl W. Fleet of Kansas City said he was forced to land his single motor mail and express plane at La Questa New Mexico Sunday afternoon due to motor trouble near Albuquerque. His aircraft carried mail for the Transcontinental Western Air Inc. authorities reported.

Donald M. Nixdorff 30 died suddenly at his Winchester home Sunday evening. Funeral set for tomorrow at 6 from his mother's North Main Street home. He married Dorothy Stuart and leaves wife Susan, a daughter, two half brothers, and several Virginia friends. Burial in Mount Hebron Cemetery with pallbearers named Clark Cooper, Beverley Wright, Eugene Branch, Jack Riley, Edward Barr and Jack Engle.
City Sergeant C. Lee Sarr said two men stolen vehicle suspects were being held in Lexington Virginia as he pursued recovery. The Pontiac sedan license 65 853 was reported stolen from in front of the Elks Club on Braddock Street about one this morning. Officers arrested the two men with the car and it will be returned by Mr Barr. Names of the prisoners could not be learned.
Washington Aug 27 Jesse H Jones chairman of the Reconstruction Corporation said the morale of the nation’s bankers had improved considerably at a press conference. He noted RFC loan requirements were strict but that banks themselves should largely handle such loans.
The Association of Railway Executives asks the Interstate Commerce Commission for a nationwide 170 million dollar freight increase covering all commodities. The proposal, citing rising costs, includes farm crops and major farm products, with first class freight up to ten percent and intrastate rates to follow, aiming for early hearings.
