Truck Driver Fined After Martinsburg Pike Crash

Charles Silvius of Brucetown was found guilty of reckless driving after his northbound Super Service truck crossed into oncoming lanes on July 23 near Martinsburg Pike, rolling over and trapping two cars. One of the largest cake auctions in Winchester is set for 8 15 tonight on the Plaza as part of a yard party hosted by the Conrad Hoover American Legion and Auxiliary to raise funds for child welfare projects. Firemen Parade Draws 4000 to Middletown From 16 Towns

About 4,000 spectators jammed Middletown for its first fireman parade. Five companies from 16 towns plus four bands participated, with State Senator Harry F. Byrd Jr as guest of honor. In Chicago a man collapsed at a north side currency exchange and pleaded for help. When Hazel Guthrie aged 49 rushed to assist, the attacker jumped up fired a gun and forced her back into the cage. He then seized four thousand dollars from a safe and fled.

Five Injured In Head On Collision On Opequon Bridge

A two vehicle crash on Opequon bridge on U S Route 50 near the city left five people hurt. George Seitz Jr of Washington and his wife Alice were treated and released while Mrs Florence Seitz and Norman Trenter and his wife were hospitalized. Damages to the 1939 Dodge and a 1950 Plymouth convertible were estimated at 250 and 1500 dollars respectively.

Breeding Center Planned by Fred Clarke Group

Forty dairymen and agriculture workers from Frederick Clarke Warren and Shenandoah counties met in Winchester to form an artificial breeding center at Stephens City. Thirty two pledged 403 cows, canvassing for 1 000 to 1 200 cows needed to employ an inseminator full time.
