Joint Committee Recommendation Amherst St. to Remain Under Present Zoning
Winchester and Frederick County officials will likely back a three page study urging Amherst Street area zoning stay residential in the city and agricultural in the county with a nonconforming use reconstruction change. The plan calls for a county west of the bypass low density agriculture and Merrimans Estates east of the bypass low density residential, with Amherst Street north side to residential office and surrounding areas adjusted to medium density residential, plus a nonconforming use reconstruction rule. Joint committee members from city and county planning commissions supported the recommendations at a Planning Commission meeting and a public hearing on nonconforming uses is set for September 28.

Winchester Plans Recodification of Odd City Laws
Winchester moves to recodify its antiquated ordinances with examples of odd 18th and 19th century rules. The 1959 code bans Sunday work, imposes a curfew on under 16s, and includes playful relics like forbidding discharging an arrow in backyards. A Tallahassee firm handles the update, due around next April.
