Following a pre trial conference in the Middletown annexation suit opponents filed an answer arguing annexation is not necessary or expedient and moved for a bill of particulars on 11 topics. The list covers resident counts, fire protection, police staffing and costs, town income sources, sewer plans, property valuations, water service, garbage disposal, and storm sewers. A three judge hearing is scheduled for Oct 27, with Judge Elliott Marshall presiding.
Virginia dairy prices are set to climb with a mid September increase as the State Commission approved a 14 percent wholesale rise to a 28. j cent minimum and granted 50 cents of the requested 60 cent per hundredweight boost for Class II fluid milk. The move, approved by 41 votes, will take effect September 15 with a dissenting member arguing for a larger raise. Retail price scales will rise to 28 to 34 cents and wholesale ranges to 32 cents, with about 4 cents of the hike going to retailers.

About 200 civil rights demonstrators dodged bricks and bottles in South Deering while a 1,500-strong crowd protested. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. reaffirmed plans to march to Cicero on Sunday and urged housing integration. Sixteen protesters were arrested as 450 police kept an orderly line. King spoke to 400 students at a Southwest church rally afterward.
President Johnson urged both capital and labor to keep wage and price rises within reasonable bounds in a news conference.
