In New York two policemen were killed and 15 others wounded including a child as officers battled bandits who shot and killed a taxi driver before the combat ended. A photo shows the final moments of the clash.
Six occupants of a Richards car, including W H Painter and Gladys Hinkle of Newport News, were seriously injured in a head-on crash on the Northwestern Grade near Hanging Rock Hampshire County W Va. The other driver Dolly of Philadelphia escaped with minor injuries.

Mrs. Mary Stouffer widow of Daniel K. Stouffer died at the home of her son-in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Floyd Cole in Greenwood Frederick County from a heart attack. She was 71, born at Greenwood and had lived in several states due to her husband’s business. Survived by three sons Dr John Stouffer Philadelphia Daniel Stouffer Bristol Tenn Albert Stouffer Beaver Pa and three daughters Mrs Frank Strickler Pasadena Mrs David Dickson Bristol Tenn and Mrs Floyd Cole Greenwood. Funeral arrangements pending with services at Greenwood Methodist Church.
James A. Anderson of Montrose Heights a famed Virginia trapshooter and huntsman died Friday afternoon at Memorial Hospital Richmond after an apoplexy in a Main Street shoe store. He was 65, survived by his widow, four sons, a daughter, his mother, sisters, brothers and a granddaughter. Interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond.
Dispatches from Tsinanfu report 30 American missionaries held prisoner by bandits at Tamjungfu 250 miles south of Peiping. Chinese troops besiege the gang led by Linkwei Pang to free the captives. Missionaries belong to Nazarene Mennonite and National Holiness Churches.

Charles E. Williams a well known farmer of the Boyce section of Clarke county died at his home near Walnut Hall the Williams duPont farm at 1230 this morning He was 74 and survived by two sons Julian and Lawrence a sister Mrs Atwell Rus and a brother James Williams Funeral services will be held at 11 oclock Wednesday at the Boyce home conducted by Reverend O D Lambert with interment in Green Hill Cemetery Stephens City Pall bearers were Wilmer Carpenter Lacy Humston Jack Pine John M Fishpaw William Carroll and William Cornwell.
