Winning financial fight at Thomas Road Baptist Church

The Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg says it is winning its fight against insolvency. A five member committee controls church finances after a 1973 court order settling an SEC suit over two bond issues totaling 6.5 million dollars. The church reports deficits reduced by over 4.6 million in the past year with assets rising to 11.8 million and liabilities dropping to 12.36 million. Creditors have largely written off debt as contributions. Creditors are offered three settlement options including ongoing payments, 75 percent cash now with 25 percent as a contribution, or 50 percent cash now with a note for the balance.
