Marston Faces Uncertain Amateur Crown Bid
Maxwell St. Marston of Philadelphia, amateur golf champion in 1923, enters the Oakmont field unsure of his form. Once famed for precise long-iron play, he has altered his swing. His longtime rival Bob Gardner of Chicago has knocked him out in early rounds in three straight years, last year reaching the semi finals before losing to George Von Elm.
