Members of the Friendship Fire Company's reel team returned from Cape Charles with major prizes. They won the $100 cash prize for the reel race and captured the first Place trophy a trumpet to be displayed at Gray and Holdy. Staunton placed second for $50 and earned credit toward the first place trophy. The trophy will become permanent after three victories. Clarke County Girl Crushed Between Autos Dies in Winchester
Miss Dora Boyd Singhass aged 19 daughter of Clarke County orchard foreman John Singhass and Mrs Singhass died at Memorial Hospital Winchester at 4 45 am after being struck by a car on Route 7 west of Berryville. She suffered compound leg fractures and other injuries when she was crushed between two autos. The wreck occurred after her sister Mrs Earl McDonald stopped a sedan and a car from Arlington driven by Robert Reeser failed to stop around a curve. An ambulance rushed her to hospital where surgeons could not operate due to shock and bleeding. Reeser and his companion, listed as John Bragg, received treatment for injuries.
