Dr and Mrs Randolph Tucker Shields and their son Randolph left Winchester for China where Shields, a medical missionary for the Southern Presbyterian Church, will resume work after a year’s stay in the United States. Evy Tucker Shields will remain in Winchester to finish Handley High School.
Harold F McCormick and Mrs Katharine Smith known as Ganna Walska were married in Paris City Hall. McCormick recently divorced from his first wife, a Rockefeller daughter. He formerly led International Harvester and has since become chairman of the board.
The United Electric Coal Company, owning mines in Ohio and Illinois, has joined the Illinois Association. Illinois mines have a capacity of 1,800,000 tons, marking the first step in a plan to control coal distribution through state associations.

Bombs concealed in cast iron pipe elbows filled with white powder were thrown into the stockade by strikers. The blasts caused earth to fly and created terror, but no guards were injured. The incident occurred during a period of heightened labor unrest at the Topeka and Santa Fe line.
Eight men and five stills were seized by state prohibition agents in raids across King George Nelson Spotsylvania and Roanoke counties. Reverend George Lucas of Gladstone Nelson county was charged with possession of whiskey and wine and released on bond. Additional arrests included several Bradshaws in Spotsylvania and others in King George Roanoke for stills mash whiskey and transport as federal agents assisted.
The tug Clarence P. Howland overturned and sank after a tangled tow line hitched to a steamer off Staten Island. Two crew members drowned as the tug sank within two minutes.
Carl H. Furr of Upperville riding Woodcock was badly hurt when the horse fell at a cedar brush jump in the Berryville Horse Show and Fair. Furr suffered a broken collarbone and severe bruising, while Lt Coles of the Third Cavalry also fell in the same class but escaped serious injury. Over 8,000 spectators witnessed the event, the largest crowd in the show’s history, with judges praising the jumping and noting strong drafts and pony classes throughout the day.

Colonel W W Whitside and wife with daughters Lilian Blaine and son W W Whitside Jr leave Winchester for Fort Riley Kansas after years on West Water Street. They travel by car via Maryland Ohio Indiana Illinois St Louis Topeka to reach their new post. Friends regret their departure and auction their Winchester home in hopes of a future return.
Maryland and District of Columbia detectives identify a mutilated body found beside a Prince George's county road. The victim bears a rope collar and knife wounds. a leather tag reading Mbride New York Lodge B P C E 108 116 W 43d St New York is the key clue. Police seek New York authorities to investigate toward identification.
Mr and Mrs Fred L Glaize and their sons Fred and Philip returned last evening from a two week motor trip in the north focusing mainly on Lake George and Lake Champlain.
A Common Council meeting is called for 8 o clock this evening at City Hall to take up business postponed from the regular August meeting due to lack of a quorum.
A valuable colt belonging to Mr. John O Flaherty of Jordans Springs was badly injured after becoming caught in a wire fence. Dr F W Boland of Winchester attended and reports the colt is much improved and recovering.

Lindamood is a son of Titus J Lindamood and connected with a large national bank in McKeesport The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs C Hargrave.
A small barn two wheat stacks and an outhouse on J Walter Clark’s Paper Mill road farm burned early Wednesday morning. Loss estimated at about 800 dollars with 126 dollars insured by Loudoun Mutual Insurance Company. Cause not determined.
