About 1,300 engineers firemen conductors and brakesmen walk out at Joliet triggering a broad city shutdown. The stoppage involves multiple unions and halts rail and industrial operations in the area. Local officials seek resolution with striking unions and railroad management.
Leaders of the four major railroad brotherhoods warn members to stay off company yards if lives are in danger amid armed guards reports. Joliet strike action shows 1800 workers walked out, with no disorders, as chiefs say intervention not required and protect workers.

The bride is a registered nurse at Sibley Hospital Washington and the groom works as a traveling representative for White Haines Optical Company Pittsburgh.
London officials announced that Home Secretary Shortt refused clemency to Joseph O Sullivan and Ros inald Dunn. They are scheduled to be hanged tomorrow for the assassination of Field Marshal Sir Henry Hughes Wilson.

The Winchester drive for the Hotel George Washington stock topped 116000 yesterday with pledges from Winchester and out of town, part of a 266000 total including 140000 in first mortgage bonds. Captain Lewis F. Cooper urged community backing to reach the 94000 balance, noting seven percent dividends on preferred stock and cumulative dividends if needed. Major Robert T. Barton predicted most remaining stock could be sold locally, with additional blocks from outside.
Mrs Ruth Hinckle aged about seventy died at her son Odus Hinckle home in Hancock Maryland last Thursday. Funeral services were Sunday with interment at the Hinckle graveyard north of Whitacre. She was widow of John Hinckle and survived by three sons Elmer Odus and William of Berkeley Springs West Virginia two daughters Mrs Redmond Unger and Mrs Clifton Unger both of Hancock Maryland and one brother John W Mauzy of Whitacre.

Perfect weather brings a huge audience to the Clarke Horse Show and Fair at Berryville Virginia. Highlights include Third United States Cavalry drill and fire jumpers act, poultry exhibits with over 2000 entries, and Sir Barton the premier race horse on display. Races continue with favorable conditions and records expected to fall. Tomorrow promises an even larger crowd for the big day.
Miss Emily Harrison of Washington visits Miss Mary Pearson and Miss Harriet Pearson at their National avenue home, staying as their guest during a social visit.
Police officer John Adams was killed and deputies Charles Smith and Allen Bartgis wounded when William Stultz opened fire in Frederick Mad as crowds seized rifles and demanded Stultz release. Stultz surrendered after defense attorney persuaded him to quit. crowd violence lingered until he was moved to Baltimore for safekeeping.
In New York eight men were shot as four gunmen fled in a automobile after an attempt on Joseph Nasseria. Jacob Goldstein, cloak maker and clothing striker, died. Three other victims remain hospitalized but expected to recover. Nasseria escaped by ducking bullets, two bullets piercing his hat crown.

London August 9 The Associated Press reports a three hour talk between Premier Poincare and Lloyd George. A committee of experts will study Poincare's plan for control of man finances and examine the point of disagreement between Britain and France.
