J. R. Kremer resigns after three years as manager of the Montgomery Ward store to lead the real estate interests of Herman Hable. He previously held that post eight years ago. Succeeding Kremer is F. J. Naddeo of Butler Pennsylvania who becomes manager here.
Charles Taylor and Archie Lowery were held over for the grand jury on burglary charges after police court heard an investigation into a missing sum over $24 at Funk pool room. Diana and Grant Campbell were acquitted of disorderly conduct. Glender Robinson was fined for drunkenness. Christian Buckler and Ray Heatwole were fined for automobile infractions and drunkenness respectively. Simon Whitlock received ten days for disorderliness.
James William Robinson 68 prominent civic and business leader died in a Newport News hospital after two weeks illness. Funeral in Newport News tomorrow, interment at Winchester. He was a Frederick county native, survived by a brother D Arthur Robinson and sister Mrs Frank Clevenger, wife Clara Piggot and three children. Burial service at Hopewell Meeting House Thursday at 3.
Postmaster General Farley returned from a western trip optimistic about Democratic prospects. He said Senator Borah's NRA criticism gains little traction with Idaho voters and forecast six Senate seats for Democrats and Democratic control of the House. He derided talk of Henry Breckinridge entering the race as a joke and planned further campaigning on August 15.
New Orleans August 7 A Memphis Tennessee visitor Curtis H Grandstaaff age 32 spent the night in jail and paid a 15 dollar fine after referring to Louisiana National Guardsmen as tin soldiers in a public disturbance report.
An order in Corporation Court extends Max Krol bond forfeiture hearing to the September term due to pending medical report. Dr. Charles Eliot was to examine Krol for travel safety. report arrival was later confirmed but its contents remain undisclosed. Judge Philip Williams was unavailable.
MINNEAPOLIS Aug 7 Congressmen Francis H Shoemaker a Farmer Labor Minnesota will not serve 30 days in the workhouse. He appeared before Municipal Judge Fred B Wright and paid a $75 fine with a check misdated to O H Hanson clerk of Minneapolis municipal court. His attorney Mose Winthrop earlier offered the same official a different name check but it was rejected. The court had ordered 30 days if he failed to appear for the May 5 auto incident.
Senator Harry F. Byrd’s annual orchard picnic will be held at the Green Orchard on Apple Pie Ridge with a noon lunch and an 1 pm program. Experts including Dr. E. C. Auchter will discuss soil moisture, organic matter, and humus in orchard soils amid drought concerns. Attendance typically reaches 1800 to 2500 fruit industry delegates from Virginia and abroad.
Dr. Raymond H. Kerlin son of Mr and Mrs Lester Kerlin of this city opened a new dental office on the second floor of the American Stores building on North Loudoun street. A young man in a straw hat passed a counterfeit five dollar note at the Golden Glow Coffee Shop and later at the Hurst ice cream counter in Winchester.
