The region endures an extended heat spell with temperatures near 100 degrees and no relief in sight. The AP forecast shows scattered evening showers, while a light shower grazed Winchester area. Historical notes compare current heat to 1930, when 107 degrees was reached.
A rash of five break ins netted roughly 250 dollars in cash plus two rod and reel sets and a used tire. The incidents occurred Tuesday night to yesterday morning in Winchester and Frederick County with two robberies in Winchester and two in the county. A purse worth over 100 dollars was stolen from Mrs. Lucia Shade. 90 dollars was recovered from a suspect who confessed. Court action pending.
