The visiting Investigating Committee claims Rev. J. H. Hawkins used bad language toward them during questioning. The incident involves a bishop suspecting a colored clergyman in Anl and the committee’s report outlines the improper conduct.
A Virginia conference committee sought a writ in unlawful detainer to recover St. Paul A M E Church on North Main, Winchester. Rev. J H Hawkins and trustee James Stephenson faced suspension after doors were locked and a bishop ordered Rev C E Lark to take over. The writ returns next week. Sunday attendance uncertain as factions clash.
Senator Swanson issued a statement praising the primary victory and urging unity to carry Virginia in November and to redeem the Ninth district. Former Governor Davis, who opposed Swanson, congratulated him and offered to aid his campaign, while Davis thanked Virginians for the honor they have conferred and accepted the verdict.

At the Friendship Fire Company regular meeting guest members were elected and nine more applications received. The group thanked Garber Manufacturing for ice cream treats for 81 members and plans an annual Labor Day picnic at Lake Home via Winchester and Western Railroad. They will switch to red shirts white ties and steel helmets with uniforms arriving before Risburg in October. They will attend the Cumberland Valley and Pennsylvania Firemen's Association meeting in Harrisburg October 4 and 5 and form reel team for Harrisburg races.
Mr Ralph Whitmore and wife and two children of Rest county escaped serious harm when a passing car struck their vehicle on the Martinsburg pike Wednesday. Whitmore swerved to yield, but the other auto hit his car, causing injuries to Mrs Whitmore and two children.
