Nimbus A Weather Satellite To Photograph Clouds From Space
NASA plans to launch Nimbus A from Vandenberg as early as Aug 11 to capture high resolution infrared and daylight cloud images in near polar orbit. The project, four years in development and costed up to 140 million dollars, aims to improve global weather data. The Weather Bureau rejected Nimbus in favor of a modified Tiros, Toss, but Nimbus backers expect it to outperform existing systems. In Gainesville, Earl Jackson, 32, junkyard operator, was killed when a jack failed and a car fell on him while he worked underneath.
