Ernest Shall of Winchester arrived in Newport News aboard the Rijndam after serving nine months with the University of Virginia Hospital unit No. 41 in France. Five officers and 120 men of the unit departed Newport on the Pocahontas for Camp Lee to be demobilized as procedures allow.

Six year old James Duebites of Hayfield was severely bitten by a savage dog owned by his uncle James Rosenberger. Paris April 30 The Japanese will retain former rights in the Chantung peninsula following the China Japan dispute over Kig Chau. A clause in the treaty renounces Germany’s rights in Chantung and transfers them to Japan. Germany held a 99 year lease and local control was limited to Chinese administration. Japanese delegates carried iron clad Tokio instructions to secure the transfer without delay. President Wilson noted the distinct Chantung status amid the pact of London. The concessions are seen as material to China, avoiding German exploitation. Mr Vernon Frye and brother of Rock, Va., were visiting when the report concluded.
Eyewitnesses describe a Sunday Valley Pike collision between Dr H E Pickeral of Stephens City in a Dodge and a Ford carrying Martinsburg colored passengers. Ford claims they kept right. Pickeral reportedly lost control at about forty mph, smashing the Ford and injuring Staples who operates a Martinsburg auto livery. Staples seeks liability and at least $300 in damages.

Mr. M. Lohr Capper of the city won a real estate commission suit in the Circuit Court of Frederick County. Noble C. Pierce and F. H. Morris alleged Capper owed them 1338.75 for a Clarke County farm sale, arguing Capper took a $1000 forfeit from purchaser A. K. Doflemyer and bypassed their contract. The trial, before Judge Frank Whiting and a jury, spanned two days with evidence showing Doflemyer could have paid an extra 7000 to fulfill the contract, but chose forfeiture.
