Thousands line streets as Queen Shenandoah VII rides in the grand procession through the apple capital. The festival celebrates blossoming orchards and co operative spirit between the city and surrounding regions.
Frost damage across northern Virginia fruit regions varies by drainage and location. Some orchards report light or no damage, while others show injury to Black Twigs Old Winesaps Staymans and Delicious with York Imperial Grimes Golden and Ben Davis faring best. Bees at work indicate live blossoms and possible good crop, while Frederick county appears less affected and many orchards may need thinning.
Three women and two girls from Keyser West Virginia were injured yesterday afternoon when lumber and bricks toppled from an old East Piccadilly Street office building during the Apple Blossom Festival parade. Several were treated at homes and at Oaks Pharmacy for cuts bruises and shocks with no broken bones reported.

Lewis Edgar Light aged 78 died from a heart attack at his Cedar Grove home in Frederick county. He spent his life farming, son of Henry and Elizabeth Light, survived by son Jesse and daughter Mrs Annie Snapp, four brothers and a sister. Funeral tomorrow at Chestnut Grove Church with Rev. C. J. Racey, burial nearby. Relatives meet at 2 pm at the house.
Lynchburg Virginia reports a population total of 40,559 according to the federal census supervisor. This marks a gain of 10,489 since 1920, a 34 percent increase for the district.

James R Dailey longtime city street employee died Thursday night at his daughter Susie Dailey’s home following an illness of long duration. He was 73, born in Gainesboro, survived by two daughters Susie Dailey and Nellie Kline, plus grandchildren and great grandchildren. Miss Suzanne Pollard hostess of the Richmond executive mansion was crowned Queen Shenandoah VII before about 25 000 at Handley High School stadium in a lavish ceremony. Gov Hardman of Georgia assisted by local clergy crowned her, and Winchester officials presented the crown a key to the city and a golden apple and sceptre.
The seventh annual Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival story will be broadcast at 11 30 this evening from KDKA Pittsburgh for Rear Admiral Richard E Byrd of Winchester who sails in a few days from Dunedin New Zealand for New York and home after two years in the Antarctic. Lewis Kauffman and P A Boyd gathered information in Winchester Thursday and Friday and Westinghouse directed the broadcast. KDKA provided dates and festival details over the air in recent weeks.

Over 500 students trained by Handley faculty performed in costumes overseen by Ruth Beery and Katherine Pannill.
