Sam Palmer, alleged killer of Inspector KcManaway, captured wounded and detained. Reported as a fugitive, he is now held in jail awaiting further proceedings. Details remain limited as authorities investigate motive and accomplices.
Prohibition Officer McManaway was shot and killed near Flynn by the Scott brothers and an associate. Sheriff Gunn and other officers returned fire, killing the trio's horse. the outlaws fled toward Neola, West Virginia as National Guardsmen and citizen posses search the Alleghany Bath counties.
Bertha von Hillern advertises home baked rolls rusk and doughnuts made with crystal flour on sale at Atlantic and Pacific Tea Store.
Winchester invites thousands of visitors to a May 3 orchard tour by car. Residents with cars and drivers are asked to phone J Mack Noonan to offer transport service from 9 to 1 with a planned route through Kennstown Cedar Creek and Apple Pie Ridge. J R Dushane chairs the transportation committee.
In Hagerstown Maryland on April 25 a Kiwanis luncheon drew 145 attendees at the YMCA. Local members plus visitors from Winchester and Frederick joined in a uniform program with speeches by District Governor Woodward’s envoy, Dr Walter Cox of Winchester, and Col Owlsley, former American Legion commander, plus a Winchester delegation performance and a Maryland themed chorus. An architect guest from York attended, the flag pledge was given, and a Chick dinner was served by the YMC A.
Two hen turkeys and several eggs disappear from Strother Boyd’s property amid an investigation. A search warrant led to a nearby woman but no birds or eggs were found. The woman is summoned to appear before Justice Tavenner to explain relatives’ presence at the time.

Col Bryan Conrad leads a committee to invite President Coolidge to attend the Winchester Apple Blossom Festival on May 3 1924. A reception plan is in motion with Representative Harrison and Senators Swanson and Glass. Volunteers are asked to post festival signs and assist travelers by registering rooms for visitors through the Winchester Chamber of Commerce.
Judge T. W. Harrison of Winchester, member of Congress from Virginia VII, will attend the Friendship Fire Company annual banquet in their hall next Thursday evening May 1. He sent a note to Capt. Fred Forney saying he will be with the boys and wishing them best luck.
Clarke and Frederick county schools receive notices urging full participation in Winchester May 3 apple blossom festival. Clarke plans to move Junior League Mayday to Winchester fairgrounds with 100 percent attendance goal. Frederick schools asked to prepare parading floats and join Clarke county picnic at 10 o clock.
The Harloe Tire Company, Inc. will open an office in the First National Bank building in Hagerstown by Amory of Winchester, planning factories on Virden Avenue near Moller organ works. Full plant completion is two years away, with operations starting in about sixty days employing about 150 workers. Rims will be made immediately and tires shortly after. the firm produces an airless tire without inner tubes. The new industries committee of the Chamber of Commerce, led by M. F. Riley, approved a favorable report.
Granite City Illinois April 25 bandits robbed T D Gradinaroff assistant cashier of the Granite City National Bank of 63000 in currency he had just received at the post office from the St Louis Federal Reserve Bank Gradinaroff and the bandits escaped no one was wounded all involved are unnamed in the report

Charles Murphy, longtime leader of Tammany Hall, died after a streetcar accident in New York. He rose from car driver to power, shaping mayoral and gubernatorial campaigns and backing Gov. Alfred E. Smith for president. Murphy died minutes after a stimulant injection. authorities note his death followed a street car collision.
California senator Hiram Johnson, seeking the Republican nomination, announced a Toledo speech to close his campaign and said he would reach Washington tonight. His voice and physical fatigue are cited as causing campaign setbacks, with Indiana and Madison cited as affected states.
