A four story building housing a novelty and pawn shop burned early today in downtown Washington at Ninth and E streets N W. Firemen battled the blaze but four were overcome by smoke. About 100 hotel guests in a nearby property were ordered to evacuate but the hotel suffered no damage and guests returned to their rooms before daylight.

Richmond Virginia April 22 Rev David Hepburn militant dry leader and superintendent of the Virginia Anti Saloon League since 1919 died yesterday afternoon after a two week illness aged 64 He was a city leader for twelve years often in public eye and engaged in heated liquor controversies He served under Bishop Cannon and helped sway Virginia toward Hoover in 1928 while remaining neutral in 1929 He was born in Castle Fin Ireland September 12 1866 and had a long career in Maryland Indiana and Virginia He is survived by his widow Georgia M Nuthal and five children Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church in Richmond burial in Richmond.
