Mrs. Mary Haines 100 dies at Woodland Ave home

Mrs. Mary Rebecca Haines age 100 died yesterday after a long illness at 1160 Woodland Ave. She would have turned 101 on May 9. Born in White Post she was the daughter of William and Margaret Albin Henry and recalled Civil War memories. Widow of George Henry Haines whom she wed Aug 15, 1888, she was the oldest member of the Episcopal Church and survived by three children Mary D. Haines J B Daniel and Nel.

Women in Virginia car change tire in seven minutes

The Town Crier reports three women in white uniforms on Berryville Ave making a tire change in seven minutes after a blowout, then continuing downtown. Leona Place reported the incident at 702 Berryville Ave. The feature also notes mispronunciations and a trivia item about a $100,000 bill bearing Woodrow Wilson. A downtown truck displayed a red plaid flag from protruding rear cargo.

Blast Victim Remains Critical in Plant Explosion

A Clarke County man remained unconscious and in critical condition after an explosion at the American Brakeblock plant on Paper Mill Road about 11 25 am. Two other employees Eugene Oates and William Presgraves were treated and released for bruises. An investigation into the blast is underway. Mack Welsh was treated for a scraped knee at Memorial Hospital after an incident at the Lee Jackson Restaurant. Spring clearance and local notices follow.
