Social Experiment Helps Struggling Coal Town Revive
Stump Creek Pennsylvania, once thriving on a coal vein, was bought by the Institute on Science and Man for 175000 in 1973 to test small town renewal. The plan renovated homes, rebuilt roofs and plumbing, sold houses to tenants at 3000 to 4000, and formed a residents council. Police investigate a 500 theft of cedar siding from Stonebrook Farms.
