Nursing Home Hit by Flu Like Illnesses
Eight residents of the Bon Air Home for the Elderly in Stephens City have been hospitalized at Winchester Memorial Hospital for flu like illnesses. Ten persons were taken to the hospital by the Middletown Volunteer Rescue Squad. Charge Nurse Barbara Lake called the situation very serious and noted the respiratory nature of the illness. Currently 48 residents remain at the home along with several employees out sick. Hospital officials cautioned the cases may not all be the same illness and noted no in house virus studies. Some samples will be sent for tests as flu activity has risen locally.
