Evans Hotel Introduces New Motor Bus Service

Petrified Pear Exhibited by City Hall Curiosity
Capt J B Beverley clerk of the Corporation Court shows a petrified pear he found today on Mrs M H G Willis premises on South Washington street. The stone like fruit still has its stem and came from a tree in Mrs Willis yard. Beverley plans to offer cuttings for sale and the pear is on exhibition at City Hall. Mr 8 L Lupton returned this afternoon from a business trip to the eastern cities.

Barrett and wife reconcile after desertion charge
Henry W. Barrett formerly of Winchester and now in Hagerstown Md was arrested on a warrant charging desertion and non support of his wife Mrs Blanche B Barrett of North Kent Street this city. He appeared in police court but the couple reconciled with friends and Mrs Barrett withdrew the charges granting them a chance to start anew in Hagerstown.

French Capture German Trenches in Vaux Region

Death of Dr C W Enos noted in Bergen Colorado
Mrs Warren Rice of this city received word early this morning of the death of her father Dr C W Enos at his Bergen Colorado residence late last night. He was a prominent Denver physician and a former visitor to Winchester leaving survivors including his widow, a daughter Mrs Rice, and two sons Hollins Enos and Herbert Enos. Mrs Rice and children left for Denver this afternoon to attend the funeral.

Staunton uses road oil to dust lay on streets
A Staunton official reports three years of road oil use to reduce dust and improve health on macadam streets. The method uses a 45 percent asphalt mix, sprayed on dry streets, then soaked and allowed to cure before traffic. Cost runs about 1 1/3 cents per square yard for roughly half a gallon of oil per application.

Funeral for Mrs Juliet Marbury Held at Georgetown Home
