Washington April 19 The Smith bill to prohibit certain labor acts from interfering with the full utilization of manpower during the war drew praise and criticism before the House Military Affairs committee. Samuel Krimsly of Pittsburgh denounced the bill as vicious and un-American and warned its passage would harm the war effort. Albert C Conradis of Washington said the Southern States Industrial Council strongly favored the measure. The session also noted ongoing party debate on taxation and budget compromises as leaders sought a middle ground on the Rum plan and income tax year skip.
Navy reports from April 17 show Dauntless and Wildcat bombers hitting Kahili in the Shortland Islands, setting fires on runways and dispersal areas.
