More Schools In Coal Area Shut
SHAMOKIN Pa April 19 Eight more schools in the anthracite region started an indefinite holiday today because of a teachers walkout. Unpaid teachers in several districts awaited possible state aid before taking similar action. Mt Carmel teachers voted to join the walkout, bringing the total pupils out of classes in Northumberland and Schuylkill counties to about 7,000. State senate approved a 1,000,000 emergency appropriation for distressed schools, bill sent to Governor James for signature.

Auto Licenses Show Increase Over Previous Year

Washington April 19 The Works Progress Administration says 37304 ineligible persons were removed after a nationwide review of need. Of 2929662 enrolled, 1.3 percent were found to be overstate for WPA jobs. In February 15 to March 15, 122396 left due to turnover while 2976140 remained.
